“What inspires my designs….LIFE! Art is autobiographical. Mirror image of experiences and emotions. Aiming always for personal perfection through expression.”-LG
This week’s All Star is not your typical fashion designer, he’s considered a pioneer in the world of Digital Art. I’m pleased to announce Digital Artist, Laurence Gartel.
I chose Laurence because I find this creative designs to be so unique, and he uses my favorite color–purple. His digital art work especially shows the contrasts of colorful lines and textures truly inspires me. I’ve never been one to color inside the lines, and Gartel truly knows how to create art with a perfect balance of colors and textures that are “beyond coloring outside the lines”!
Laurence GARTEL, is known to the world as the “FATHER” of Digital Art for nearly 40-years. His career started working side by side with video guru Nam June Paik at Media Study/Buffalo in upstate New York. He taught Andy Warhol how to use the Amiga Computer in order to produce the album cover for Debbie Harry (Blondie). Growing up in New York City during the Punk Rock era he was friends with Stiv Bators, Sid Vicious, Joey Ramone, Wendy O. Williams, and exhibited his work with Robert Mapplethorpe. Due to his creation of Digital Art before the birth of the personal computer his work has been exhibited in several museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, Long Beach Museum of Art, Princeton Art Museum, Norton Museum of Art as well as included in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum of American History, Bibliothque Nationale Paris and Victoria and Albert (V&A) Museum, London.
Gartel has traveled the world exhibiting and projecting his work in Australia, Spain, Germany, Italy, as well as going to India and creating a Bollywood Music/Video for Universal Entertainment. He has been commissioned to produce artwork for Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Red Hot Chili Peppers, as well as for corporations such as Coca Cola, Philip Morris, Walt Disney, the National Basketball Association, Gibson Guitars, Bang & Olufsen. In addition, one of Gartel’s most accomplished campaigns was the one he designed for Absolut Vodka.
Always involved in everything Gartel has his own line of accessories: handbags, woman’s shoes as well as men’s bow-ties. All these creations inspired by the Grammys.
GARTEL is the Official Artist of the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, Los Angeles 2015.
