Football fans have the Super Bowl as the ultimate show of sportsmanship. Well Fashionistas have Fashion Week, and one of the most important seasons for the fashion world is New York Fashion Week. There are literally hundreds of fashion shows going on for an entire week in NYC. It’s hosted twice a year, one in February and another in September, which for many is truly the most important one.
IMG is known to host the most elite fashion shows. IMG is the world’s leading producer, marketer and partner to the international fashion community. IMG’s presence and influence is felt in established and emerging fashion capitals around the world including Berlin, Istanbul, London, Mumbai, Miami, Milan, Moscow, New York, Sydney, Tokyo, Toronto and Zurich. With a focus on spotlighting these stylish destinations and their local talent, IMG aims to inspire, showcase and unite fashion’s key creators, communicators and consumers.
When I interned for Chanel in NYC I got to discover the world of IMG and the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in 2001. That’s where I found my calling in the fashion world. I became almost obsessed with fashion shows. The energy, the creativity of the fashion designers, the music, stage and set designs were just phenomenal. Coming from Texas I had never seen anything like it. So, I’ll admit for the past 14 years I’ve been a fashion show junkie. I’ve produced many fashion shows, participated in fashion shows and attended many fashion shows.
I have a unique appreciation for what goes into a fashion show and all the hard work an entire team puts together. It can take an entire year to put on a show that will only last around 20 minutes. It sounds absurd, but it’s well worth it when done properly.
So, on that note I want to present to you my top three picks of this year’s New York Fashion Week – Spring/Summer 2016.
The show that got the most buzz was a French label, the one and only Givenchy. I personally wasn’t a huge fan before watching this show, but after seeing this collection I am! Designer & Creative Director Ricardo Tisci did an amazing job at creating the wow factor for his Spring/Summer collection. He’s known for using different elements, such as street and couture, and combining them in his designs in such a way that impresses all.
So many celebs and the “who’s who” attended this show. Take a look for yourself in the video below, and be amazed. Yes, we might never wear any of these outfits, but as for me I can genuinely appreciate all the art work that went into each design!

My next top designer is Monique Lhuillier. Monique Lhuillier is internationally recognized as one of America’s prominent designers. Established in 1996 by Monique Lhuillier and her husband, Tom Bugbee, the company is considered one of the leading fashion houses in design, quality and creativity. With a passion for creating collections that are both feminine and modern, Monique Lhuillier continues to design ready-to-wear items, accessories and bridal collections that are luxurious, chic and true to her aesthetic.
My last pick of this important week is Rebecca Minkoff. With a vision of building a lifestyle brand for the downtown romantic, San Diego-born designer Rebecca Minkoff founded her company in 2001 after she developed a small and successful apparel line. Rebecca is known for the “Morning After Bag”. Rebecca’s designs are a favorite for modern, trend-setting everyday women and celebrities alike. I adore this collection and would wear it all!!!
Well, I hope you’ve enjoyed my top designer picks of SS16 from New York Fashion Week. Stay tuned for top trends!
